I’ve tried not to be fearful the older I get. I guess it ‘s emotional gravity. Fear that is.. I once locked myself in a bathroom in 4th at a school play because I was so afraid. I still remember my line, “He said he would be president.” I didn’t come out until the play was well underway, and I knew I wasn’t going to have to recite my line. Yes, my line. Not lines! I also said no and ran away from Carlos Santana when he tried to get me onstage to play tambourine at a concert. I ran to the bathroom until the song was over. I was about 10 years old. I still remember what it felt like not doing it. I know.. I know!
Asking the band director to be in the school band my freshman year in high school. Even though I had never played anything other than guitar, and a little piano. Definitely not drums or percussion. Going into a music studio(even though I knew nothing) and having a conversation with the owner. That got me into the professional side of music. Playing my first show at a bar when I was 17 even though I had horrible stage fright. Funny because none of my friends could go since it was a 21+ only show(I did sneak my friend Randy in though). Asking my wife to marry me. I’ve never been that nervous! Luckily, there were no bathrooms close by.. I kid I kid!
Now my wife, Lacy, is 6 1/2 months pregnant. I hope I can teach him(yes, it’s a boy!!) not to be so fearful.
Here is a video of a guy who held up a sign asking to play piano onstage with U2 at a concert. All he did was ask. Jealous? Prepare to be more jealous. This is the second time they have pulled him from the crowd. Both times he just held up a sign.. piano + me with the song title on it.
What is one thing you wish you could do again, and one thing you can’t believe you did?
